GENERAL REGISTRATION
To register, please submit a completed registration form, registration
fee and tuition payment or deposit, by mail, fax or in person, and please
allow a minimum of 7 - 10 business days for student placement during peak registration periods.
PLACEMENT OF NEW STUDENTS
Music students or their parents/guardians have the opportunity to receive a personal Consultation as part of the registration process. The consultation can be conducted by telephone or in person, and is a chance to discuss where to begin, what instrument to study, or what types of instruction might be most appropriate. Any special individual needs can be addressed at that time. Contact Mary Bloom, Head of Music Education, at mary@nmsmusicschool.org or 203-624-5189 x 16. Assignment of newly registered
students is based on teacher availability, as well as students learning
style and interests. To help us better accommodate your schedule,
please be thorough when filling out the Preferred and Unavailable
Days/Times section of the registration form. The Registrar's Office will contact you by e-mail or phone to discuss and confirm the student’s placement.

REGISTRATION ONCE
THE SEMESTER HAS BEGUN
Students, new or returning, may enroll at any point during the year
but should understand that earlier enrollment allows for a greater
selection of teachers and times. Tuition for individual instruction
will be pro-rated from the point at which the student enters. Registration for group classes after the first two meetings is at the discretion of the instructor.
TRIAL LESSONS
A trial lesson is a single 30-minute lesson, prior to enrollment,
in regularly scheduled individual instruction which gives prospective
students a no-obligation opportunity to try an instrument or meet
with a teacher. Availability of trial lessons is limited in August,
September, January, February and June due to high volume of registration
activity. NMS recommends trial lessons for children under 6. Some
faculty require trial lessons for placement in their schedule. To schedule a Trial Lesson, contact Chris Radawiec at 203-624-5189 x 32 or chris@nmsmusicschool.org.
30 minute trial lesson $35.00 per lesson Call (203) 624-5189 for
arrangements.
SPRING / EARLY REGISTRATION FOR RETURNING
STUDENTS
Early registration for Fall begins in late May and ends in mid-July.
It is recommended that, in May, returning students or parents consult
with your current teacher regarding Fall lesson length, day, time,
and any supplemental instruction (ensembles, theory). If, at the
time you pre-register, your teacher is not certain of his/her Fall
schedule, you may either list your preferred day and time or leave
the space blank on the registration form, and the Registrar will
contact you to coordinate a time. By registering early, you receive
priority scheduling
and financial incentives. Returning students who register after
the early registration deadline may forfeit priority scheduling.
Registrations received in August are processed on a first-come,
first-served basis.
IMPORTANT: Registrations received without the required funds do
not serve as a reservation of a returning students time slot.
SUMMER SESSION
Information on summer availability of instruments, classes and teachers
is available here. Summer registration
forms, mailed to all current students and available in the office
in April, must be submitted with payment in full by all students
before the summer session begins. Separate registration forms and
procedures may exist for special summer programs, Guilford Dance and Early
Childhood.
Registration forms for summer must be submitted with payment in
full by all students before the session begins.
